VANCOUVER CHRISTMAS MARKET ENGAGEMENT SESSION BY JONETSU

Denise & Dennis will marry this Valentine’s weekend, so it was time to get out and do their engagements session!  D&D braved the freezing temperatures with so much positive energy- we had a really great time!  Shooting outdoors during times like these, we need to move fast and remember why we are all here in the first place: to celebrate this time together , pre-wedding, time away from planning and work- time to relax and flirt and be IN LOVE.

My coat envy was immediately apparent as I could not help but swoon over Denise’s gorgeous coat by Tara Jarmon.  When we give direction about wardrobe and people knock it out of the park with their personal style choices, it makes me very excited.  What can I say.  The perfect choice.

So sweet…

Vancouver’s Village area- close to the studio and one of our favourite haunts.

What a beauty…. Hair and Makeup by Emily Cheng.

It was so great to know D&D over our meetings and shoot together- so kind, and Dennis is hilarious.  He makes everyone laugh and have a blast…

The Vancouver Christmas Market is good times.  Mulled wine makes it even better times.

Yes, we jumped.  Don’t judge.  It’s cute like crazy.

Let the reflections begin…

D&D finished their date night off by booking a room and dinner at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia.  One of our fave hotels- the service is great and we are thankful for the kindness of all of the staff on so many occasions- top notch every time.  Thanks, guys!!

Gorgeous, connected couple.  D&D.

Glam moment.

Sneaking away…

Guys, we can’t wait for your wedding!  Geneve from Dreamgroup  is planning (thanks again for your help with hotel details of this shoot, Geneve!)— and anytime we work together it’s smooth, gorgeous times all the way- a la the current feature in Wedluxe (on news stands now):  Vanessa and Scott’s super deluxe two day wedding, with multiple intimate ceremonies/parties, completely unique decor at every turn: Perfect!  We’ll blog it this winter, along with so many weddings and engagement sessions from the past year+.  I’m excited to start blogging again!  In fact, I’ll blog again tomorow 🙂 xo c

Wow! These are so stunning and fun! I love the one of the carousel and puddle and the one of her face through the ornaments. Beautiful work 🙂

What a beautiful shoot. So atmospheric. I love all the twinkly lights.

PROFESSIONAL BC WEDDING AWARDS 2013 JONETSU WINS BEST OVERALL WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD

Last night was really fun.  The Annual Professional BC Wedding Awards took place this year at the Pinnacle at The Pier in North Vancouver.  What a lovely hotel- a bit of a gem, if you ask me- great rates, central, nice rooms and killer Vancouver views.  Thank you to the organizers and sponsors for all of their hard work and dedication to producing such a nice Gala… I’m sure you put in so many hours that no one knows about behind the scenes- you guys are total givers. xo

We were so excited to win this year’s award for Best Overall Wedding Photography (yay to our JONETSU STUDIOS team, including Gabi and Matthew who assist us in Vancouver)!  Considering the wedding photography talent in BC, we feel particularly humbled to have won this for a second year.  Big congrats to all of the finalists and winners last night!! We are so inspired by our colleagues in this province… I feel like the bar is being set higher and higher, industry-wide and that only means wonderful things for brides and grooms. It’s a warm, passionate and hard-working group of artists and service providers- a sweet group to be a part of– and to party with! 🙂

Here was our full winning submission (12 images), featuring Cristina and Curtis.  They married in Bogota, Colombia this July in the same church Cristina’s parents married. Thank you to Cristina and Curtis (and both of your families!), and to all of our couples this year (& years past!!!) who really make us feel grateful for being photographers- that we get the opportunity to know you and care about you… you guys all mean so much to us and it’s an honour to share these incredible moments with you. *sappy love moment over, I promise 😉

Thanks to Tammy from Uniquity Design (she won for Best Stationary this year!) for the photo of us:

Thanks to Tamara at J Crew at Pacific Centre Mall for helping me out with my necklace- you were so lovely!  We’ve been so busy lately, I really wanted to get my hair and makeup done professionally, but alas, we were scrambling just to make it to the awards.  I actually glued those little single eyelash thingies to my eyelashes by myself. So awkward.  And I have no idea how to line my eyes.  Time for a lesson from someone “how to do evening makeup.”… but I digress… Cris & Curtis:

UPDATES IN JONETSULAND

What a fantastic wedding season!  This poor blog has been missing the love, but our clients have been getting lots of it!  Here are some images we’ve been capturing this summer:

Julia and Reid: Romance on the lake and spectacular wedding on the family estate on Pender Island

Josh and Kara’s emotional and bright, beautiful day (can’t wait to do their post-wedding session this Sunday—- on water-skis!)

Jenny and Eddy:  Pilot Eddy arranged access to this incredible plane for their rainy day engagement session!  Had to continue with the reflection goodness on their wedding day (3 lucky reflections: BOOM!)

Cristina and Curtis— love that “look”.  At horse stables in Pemberton.
Bogota, Colombia for C&C’s wedding!!
Docs Cheryl and Peter had a prefect, relaxed and authentic wedding day at Cecil Green:
Jamie and Kam:  This series is of Kam telling Jamie all the ways he loves her- melty melts!  For their portraits on the big day, we snuck away for a little forest time.  The light was magical.
Lan and Roy tied the knot at one of our favourite venues, Hycroft.  This candid moment of Roy climbing the stairs to meet his wife after she changed into her Vietnamese gown is so sweet…
Vanessa and Scott.  So many adventures with these two sweethearts.  Engagement session at the Hotel Georgia, Wedding #1 at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Owner’s Suite, and Wedding #2 at Hotel Georgia and the ultimate private club on a yacht with a beautiful custom fireworks show…
it takes a great team to pull off two weeks of wedding bliss…
Hannah and Steve.  A fun and personal engagement session in locations they love to frequent and an equally personal wedding at the Loden penthouse!
Hannah MADE her gown!  Isn’t it incredible?!
Candace and Wes:  Wes works on planes like these 🙂  Cannot wait to see these two marry next week.  High school sweethearts- we even photographed them at their high school (in front of their lockers!).  So much fun!

With several shoots every week, it’s been a little nuts at the studio but we’re really so happy with the relationships we’ve started and the work we’ve been producing with our couples.  So grateful to be doing what we love together!

Next time I blog, I’ll announce our cross-Canada tour with Canon this Fall: it’s perfect for wedding photographers and videographers at all levels- a super intensive day of education and connection: Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto, with a possible addition of Montreal- end of October and early November.

Oh, and if you’d like to see some of our work in print- check out the cover and story in Real Weddings (Sonia and Adam), the cover of The Complete Wedding Directory (Gina and Joey) and Sara and Riley’s wedding in Wedluxe!  xo camille and chadwick

NATURAL LIGHT PORTRAITS AT JONETSU STUDIOS

Happy International Women’s Day.

I love to shoot honest, bright portraits in the loft studio.  There is something very special about soft, natural light that wraps around you like a hug.  We use a wide variety of lighting sources in our wedding work, but when we’re in the studio, we’re addicted to this glow!

Here are two women I think are terrific- in for their 2013 portraits.  Both of these ladies have genuine energy for days and beauty that comes right from the depth of their souls, right out at you:  Boom!  I want to KNOW her!!

It is no surprise that they are both at the top of their fields.  Nadia is a multi-talented style maven (add her services to a JONETSU shoot and you have the golden ticket!!), and Heidi is an incredible Naturopathic Doctor and culinary alchemist.  Check out their websites- I have a strong feeling that we will be seeing them both on TV in the near future!

Great captures, well done!

AND THERE GOES FEBRUARY… VANCOUVER WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

So, 2013 is off to a brilliant start.  That whole “resolution” concept has taken hold of our household and lives and has left us feeling pretty awesome.  2013  is our year of getting healthy– as healthy as we can be.

Each year feels as if it passes by faster than the last (do you feel that way too?), leaving me with a sense of urgency.  It’s a calm urgency- if that makes any sense at all – I know exactly what is important to me and I “just” need to make the time to make it all happen.

How do we make the most of our short time in these bodies we walk around in?  We’re doing our best to feed ourselves with fuel that will make us feel and function as well and as long as possible.  More time outside.  More hugs, time with friends.

Business-wise, JONETSULAND is clicking along at a wonderful rate, having reached many of our goals for 2013 last month.  We’ve welcomed the most wonderful couples again this year, and we’re really excited about the relationships we’re developing with them.  It’s no small thing to actually adore the people one works with/for.  I spoke with a friend recently who became a business owner last year, and though she has struggled to manage the one million and one things any business owner must manage, I heard loud and clear that this is one of the best things she’s ever accomplished, and that she too adores her clients and her employees (yay J!).  There is no room for bitterness in business and/or relationships.

Time will tell if it’s a poor business choice, but blogging has certainly taken a back seat to life-enjoyment, and connecting with our clients, two on two.  I’ve decided that that’s ok.

There is some fun JONETSU coverage on the news stands right now:  Jacilyn and Ryan’s wedding in Wedluxe , Tofino wedding in Perfect Weddings, Gina and Joey on the cover of The Complete Wedding Directory and Julie and Eugene’s flower girls grace the final page of Real Weddings- so cute!!

Here are a couple of images from weddings this month:

Amanda and Brian. They sparkle together, and we quickly fell in love with both of their families.  Their ceremony and party (yes: PARTY!!) at the Fairmont Pacific Rim was incredible!:

Yvette and Jeff.  Felt like coming home.  We already know Jeff’s wonderful family, and Yvette was so sweet and excited about photography (my favourite attitude!!) – she had a dream about a moment like this one- in the location where Jeff first proposed:
