FAIRMONT PACIFIC RIM AND ROSEWOOD HOTEL GEORGIA : TWO GORGEOUS WEDDING PARTIES FOR VANESSA & SCOTT! AS SEEN IN WEDLUXE

So fun!! Two separate weddings for these two loves (three special events). Managing all of the details (and there were many!) was Geneve from DreamGroup Productions– her design and execution on all three events was unreal. Having gotten to know Vanessa and Scott (and their pups Grissy and Bowman) over four shoots and relax times together, I have to say that Geneve absolutely created two weddings that perfectly suited the couple’s style and overall relaxed nature.

The details were soooo good (check out Wedluxe for Vanessa & Scott’s sweet story).

Geneve was my clear pick to feature in this blog post. I remember watching the same day edit from Capture the Moment and looking over at Geneve (during the yacht party) – all teary and sweetly proud, handing a tissue to Vanessa- she was on her knees to make sure she wasn’t blocking anyone’s view. We have that photo. Nothing is more important than choosing team members who genuinely care about you leading up to, on and following your wedding day. I asked Geneve about her feelings after completing these outstanding weddings…

“The best part was the relief I felt seeing how impressed Vanessa’s family was with everything I had created for the ceremony and family dinner. Vanessa had mentioned to me on several occasions that they were accustomed to fine experiences and had high expectations and although I knew I could rise to the challenge there was a little part of me that was determined to not only receive a passing grade, but to knock their socks off. And I think I did that. I’ve come to realize that that little voice of uncertainty that occupies my mind is what keeps me honest, humble, and helps me exceed client expectations rather than just meet them!! Oh! And my favourite memory in hindsight is racing from Hawksworth after sending all the guests and the bride and groom off to the yacht in my car almost missing the departure jumping from the dock on to the boat as it pulled away from the shore! Phew. It was a almost a wedding planner overboard scenario!”

Also huge standouts at this wedding: Evan from Flowerz, Jayna Marie hair and makeup, Anna Elizabeth made one of the most beautiful cakes I’ve ever seen, and the invite design by Paper by Judy was incredible.

To Vanessa and Scott, you know we love you guys and we want to dedicate this post to your pup Bowman, may the sweet guy rest in peace- he was such a lover and we’re so glad we had the chance to get to know him!! xoxoxox

JONETSU OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHERS SCOOTER BRAUN & YAEL COHEN’S WHISTLER WEDDING, PLANNED BY SARAH OF DREAMGROUP! #sybwedding

Every wedding is very special and our goals don’t change photographically depending on who we’re shooting… but I have to say it was a particular pleasure to capture Scooter Braun (entertainment mogul) & Yael Cohen’s (CEO F**k Cancer) celebrity-studded (yet completely down-to-earth) wedding this weekend. The faces were more recognizable than many weddings we photograph, but the feelings of warmth and love from family and friends felt wonderfully familiar.

We’ve seen Sarah Shore and her team at DreamGroup produce many a fabulous event over the years, and this wedding was certainly no exception. So beautiful and meaningful, in every single detail.

As you may have seen all over the media over the past couple of days, there were many special musical surprises from the couple’s friends including Justin Bieber’s serenade (a scene from the movie Love, Actually) as the couple began their recessional. (accompanied by Vancouver’s best musicians as organized by Musical Occassions).

The music was BANANAS all day and night, people! It was a real treat to shoot so many talented and passionate individuals.

Our most sincere congratulations go out to dear Yael and Scott and their families and friends!

Other guests/performers included Ed Sheeran, Christina Perri, Carly Rae Jepsen, Tom Hanks, Asher Roth, Rita Wilson, Sophia Bush… the list goes on.

PENDER ISLAND WEDDING “HUNTER GATSBY GLAM” BY JONETSU STUDIOS

Hi There! Yay, time to get blogging again! Julia and Reid were married on beautiful Pender Island BC at Julia’s family estate.

Relationships, heritage and true Northern spirit were focuses during the wedding and days surrounding. The way everything came together so elegantly was really due to the efforts of so many people, including family, many artists and service providers chosen by Julia and Reid and of course, the couple themselves. So much love.

New to our blog, we want to get into the minds of some of our favourite artists and service providers whose work and ethics really stand out at each wedding. At Julia and Reid’s wedding, we were blown away by the efforts and vision of Seattle-based Steve and Jamie Moore of http://www.sinclairandmoore.com . They were kind, extremely dedicated to Julia and Reid and to providing significant quality and wow factor. I asked Steve about his inspiration for Reid and Julia’s decor (you’ll see Steve and Jamie pictured later around the decor images):

“When it came to designing Julia and Reid’s wedding I have to admit I was initially stumped by the challenge they presented to me. Julia wanted a glamourous affair with a bit of bling. Reid wanted to include a nod to his love for the wild outdoors, hunting and taxidermy. Although the two ideas could not be more drastically different, I intertwined both styles to create what we referred to as ‘Hunter Gatsby Glam’. We accomplished this by infusing art deco patterns, rich silks, chandeliers and candelabras with stag heads, antlers, furs and taxidermy. We further created this style juxtaposition by creating flower arrangements of lush garden roses, lace hap hydrangeas and ranunculus were mixed with wild textures, climbing vines and fruiting branches. The combination was unique and distinctive to the couple, while still retaining the essence of classic timeless elegance. It was rewarding seeing it all come together.”

Hi Dallas! Sorry for my late reply & congrats on your engagement. The couple brought much of their wedding on trucks by ferry (and they had excellent wedding planners/decorators… link in post). We hiked into property off Poet’s Cove for those images.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM JONETSU (PLUS BOOZY EGGNOG RECIPE!)

In early December, we took a night to decorate the tree and get some Christmas spirit around the house so we could come out of computer land darkness to enjoy some holiday love all month long! Really glad we did that as relax times have been minimal these days, and I adore warm, twinkling lights.

We love to make cocktails and we thought we’d share our recipe for boozy nog. It’s not so traditional, and we’re not super mixologists or anything, but give’r a go and please report back if you like it or if you have ideas for tweaking 🙂

BOOZY EGGNOG, WITH ROSEMARY ESSENCE

MAKES TWO GENEROUS, MERRY DRINKS (Should there be any other kind?)

2 shots of Bourbon

2 shots of spiced Rum

6-8 shots of quality eggnog (to taste… Chadwick likes six, I like eight, we serve people 7 😉

Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with good, clean ice

SHAKE IT, BABY- SHAKE IT HARD!! (for 40 seconds+)

take a sprig of fresh rosemany, bruise it and rub it around the edge of glass. (The oils will provide a beautiful fragrance as you drink.)

Pour the drink into a glass of 1/3 ice

finish with fresh nutmeg shavings, and garnish with rosemary

We used: Kraken Rum, Woodford Reserve Bourbon and Avalon Dairy’s Eggnog

It’s worth it to get fresh rosemary and whole nutmeg.

Then a few days ago, it snowed!! Nothing exciting for the rest of Canada, but very exciting for people in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. We use the opportunity to do some family photos each time it happens- and it usually happens pre-Christmas each year. My mom cares for our whippets each time we are out shooting or traveling, and we are so grateful for her!! She turned 70 this year and the more time passes, the more respect I have for the woman that she is, and the woman that she has always been. Thanks, Moo.

Playing with the dogs makes us all happy.

This Fall, NiNi turned 10 and Mya turned 8. They bring so much joy into our lives. We are grateful to be able to snuggle them over the holidays, and we think often about our friends who have lost their beloved pets this year. xo

I really treasure these images Chadwick took of me in the snow. He actually caught me without nerves in front of the camera, so they may be the most authentic photos I have of myself since childhood. Thanks, Boo.

On to more love for family. My Mother In Law is a blessing to us, and to so many. Like a lot of families these days, we have been taking steps to eat in a more healthful way- which doesn’t really include cookies, cakes and breads. For someone who is FAMOUS for her prolific, spectacular and delicious gifts of home made Christmas Delights, Mom was contemplating not going through the effort of baking for family this year. She decided to give from her heart anyway, and bake, package and mail this Most Perfect Box of Baking Love. We were delighted!

PROPS TO OUR LOVELY CANADA POST MAIL CARRIER! She saved this Most Perfect Box of Baking Love!

UPS delivered the over-night box to the incorrect address and left it a whole street away, outside on the stoop. Our Canada Post mail carrier saw the UPS box with our name/address on it (the other family was away and did not see the box) and CARRIED IT ALONG WITH HER MAIL BAG, WHILE MAKING DELIVERY STOPS ALONG THE WAY, UP AND DOWN 2 HILLS to deliver it to us! We’ve only ever exchanged pleasantries with our mail carrier- nothing too deep, she’s usually wearing headphones and rocking her route like a BOSS. For her to act so kindly and bring this package to us was so wonderful , and we are thankful!!

Chadwick gets his cheeky, great sense of humour from someone:

You don’t understand how good these cookies are. What a pleasure to open the box and tour the containers of baking, all prepared for freezing or EATING RIGHT AWAY!

We wanted a photograph of the contents before getting them (ahem, a number of them) back into the freezer right away. These cookies and baked goods are SERIOUS. That gazillion-layered thin cake business in the tin foil is out of this world beautiful. We wanted to shoot more, but we really had about one minute to shoot this stuff before it had to get back in the freezer. No use spoiling all of this effort!! Mom, THANK YOU. xo

Snow outside and Christmas baking. What more could we ask for? Well, we could ask to be closer to more family this Christmas, but we’ll feel the love either way.

2013 has been an incredible year. We are grateful to our family, friends, clients and all of the wedding industry artists and service providers we work with all year. To say we’re excited about 2014 would be an understatement. We wish YOU and those you love a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
